Week 11-12 (5/10 - 5/23)

Sunday, May 10 - Saturday, May 16
This week was another chill week! On Sunday, Karyn and I explored Seoul Botanic Park. Before heading out, we stopped in Hongdae for breakfast and grabbed egg sandwiches from Eggdrop. The food was really good, though it's definitely more of a grab-and-go spot with very minimal seating.
After breakfast, we went to Hongik University Station to make our way to the botanical garden, and ended up taking the wrong line by accident. We got stranded at this super sketchy station where two middle-aged men were preaching the gospel to their iPad on a tripod. There was literally nobody else around...
Anyway, after getting a bit lost, we finally made it back to Hongik University Station and took the Airport Railroad (AREX) line instead. We got the line colors confused since they were both similar shades of blue! But once we finally arrived at Seoul Botanic Park, it was 100% worth it. It was a breath of fresh air we needed. It was so nice watching people hang out, walk their dogs, and spend time with their kids.
For ceramics, our final project was to create a piece representing the culture of our hometown. I decided to make a hammerhead shark with tribal print to represent Hawaiian tribal tattoos and wood carving. It was honestly my absolute favorite project!
Later in the week, Karyn and I accidentally took the wrong bus to her lash appointment and randomly stumbled upon the outside of Gyeongbokgung Palace.
Saturday, May 17 - Sunday, May 23
On Sunday, Karyn and I went to the Seoul Lotus Lantern Festival at Jogyesa Temple. It was such an amazing experience seeing all the vibrant floats and watching everyone play traditional instruments in their cultural attire!
Before heading to the temple, we wandered around for a bit, ended up near Gyeongbokgung Palace again, and randomly found an Original Pancake House. We decided to eat dinner there, and it was so good that we ended up going back two more times during the week... ToT
On my way to ceramics class, while walking up the hill, I saw a child lying on the floor, only to realize it was actually a sculpture of a half-fish, half-human creature...? Turns out the art seniors were holding an exhibition outside the art building, and I got to check out so many cool pieces.
On Saturday, we went to see AB6IX at Blue Square Woori WON Banking Hall for what might be their last concert before contract renewals. I had never listened to their music before, but it was surprisingly super fun! It was also really nice attending a smaller venue with a smaller crowd. We also tried going to Original Pancake House for a third time instead in Itaewon, but ended up being unsuccessful.
